Employment opportunities are posted on the MAA Website for 30 days.   The Michigan Assessor magazine is published bi-monthly. Publish dates are: February 1, April 1, June 1, August 1, October 1, December 1.

All advertisements  for publication in The Michigan Assessor should be sent to the Editor by the 5th of the month to be included in the following month’s issue (IE. January 5th for the January-February issue).

Job Title: Equalization Director
Location: Baldwin, MI
Wage Range: $59,820 - $75,960

 

 

Lake County is seeking a highly-qualified individual for the position of Equalization Director. This is a full time position with excellent benefits including medical, dental, vision, short term disability and life insurance; a retirement plan with a generous County contribution and paid time off.
The Equalization Director directs surveys of assessments to establish the true cash value of all property in the county and provides the Board of Commissioners with the information necessary to adopt the annual County Equalization Report in accordance with applicable Michigan general property tax law. Communicates these findings to the various taxing jurisdictions as to how it affects taxable values and millage rates. Conducts studies and related analysis of the various classes of property to assure proper equalization of property value throughout the county. Provides technical assistance to local assessors and provides the public with information on tax laws, property descriptions, assessing procedures, and related matters. Coaches and develops staff.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in business or a related field with coursework in property appraisal, assessment administration, accounting, or management.

Experience: Five or more years of progressively more responsible experience in appraising all types of property with supervisory/administrative experience.

Certifications and/or Licenses: Michigan Advanced Assessing Officer (MAAO) Certification Level III and maintain a Personal Property Examiner Certificate; Current and valid Michigan driver’s license.

Any or all of the above may be substituted for commensurate experience and/or education or a combination thereof.
