MAA President's Message
March/April Message
Dear Colleagues,
As we gear up for another March Madness, I can't help but reflect on the unique brand of chaos that comes with being an assessor during this time. While most people are focused on college basketball brackets, we find ourselves knee-deep in tax appeals, board of review preparations, and the never-ending saga of Proposal A education.
Despite the exhaustion that sets in by the end of the month, I find myself welcoming the challenge. It is an opportunity for us to connect with taxpayers.
Michigan property owners are experiencing consecutive 5% increases to their taxable value; coupled with soaring housing prices and high interest rates, it's clear that many people are feeling the financial strain.
In response to these economic challenges, I'm making a concerted effort to prioritize my mental well-being. I'm finding ways to recharge and stay resilient, whether it's doing some yoga, or indulging in a pint of Moose Tracks ice cream.
I urge each of you to find what works for you—whether it's spending time with family, getting a little extra sleep, or simply taking a moment to breathe.
As public servants, we often overlook the toll that our roles can take on our mental health. But by taking care of ourselves, we ensure that we're better equipped to handle whatever challenges come our way, including those presented by the Board of Review.
As we embark on this year's March Madness, I extend my sincerest wishes to each of you. May your month be one of resilience, empathy, and perhaps a touch of "Madless" amidst the madness.
Warm regards,
Amanda Lacelle, President
