MAA President's Message

November/December Message

It’s truly remarkable how swiftly a year has passed. It feels like just yesterday that I composed my first message to you as the President of MAA. Summer has come and gone, and now we find ourselves in the midst of fall, with winter rapidly approaching.

This change in seasons signals one thing – it’s crunch time! It’s the moment to wrap up our fieldwork, commence our personal property canvassing, and put the finishing touches on our land value assessments and Economic Condition Factors in preparation for the 2024. To all those facing an State Tax Commission audit this year, I wish you the best of luck. Don’t forget to utilize our resource page, which provides examples of resolutions, poverty guidelines, land value assessments, and ECF grids that can assist you in successfully navigating the audit process. Additionally, if you ever find yourself in doubt, don’t hesitate to reach out to your fellow assessors, who are an invaluable source of information and knowledge.

The year 2024 will also usher in changes within the MAA. For the first time in 15-25 years, we will have new individuals stepping into the roles of Magazine Editor, Webmaster, and Education Coordinator. I extend my best wishes to these newcomers as they embark on their journey to serve the members of MAA.

Our Association’s effectiveness is greatly owed to the dedication of our numerous committee chairs and members who work diligently behind the scenes. I express my heartfelt gratitude to them for their unwavering service.

I also want to extend my thanks to Past President Tony Meyaard for his dedicated service on the MAA Board over the past several years. His wealth of experience, knowledge, and leadership on the Board will be greatly missed, but I am confident that he will remain actively involved.
As we welcome incoming President Amanda Lacelle, I eagerly anticipate her leadership and fresh ideas for the year 2024.

Lastly, I would like to thank each and every member for entrusting me with the role of President over the past year. I encourage all of you to get involved with your local assessing organizations, the Michigan Assessors Association, or both, and experience the rewarding feeling of giving back to our esteemed profession.

Wishing you all a Safe and Joyful Holiday Season!

Best regards,
Jim Elrod, President
