MAA President's Message
Happy New Year Fellow Assessors,
As incoming MAA President, I am excited to serve as President for the Michigan Assessors Association. I believe I can offer a unique perspective to the title, while still preserving what MAA embodies most, highly developed education. It’s the forefront of what MAA offers and has offered for 64 years and one of the many motivations for membership. Recently we’ve earned another feather in our cap; the prestigious IAAO Zangerle Award. Congratulations to Matthew Raftary for your devoted years of service.
This time of year brings us many challenges. January and February are all about finalizing those last-minute details and checking off our to-do list. March is a month we all know is mentally draining; notices go out, the phones start ringing and it’s an endless explanation of Proposal A. As professionals, we must be sharp, and we must be patient. Sometimes that means just listening and sometimes that means educating.
While serving on the Board of Directors through various capacities for the last several years, I have had the opportunity to experience how exceptional my fellow MAA board members are. Their support has given me the confidence to take on the top role and renewed my enthusiasm to serve President.
My agenda is simple; create a social media presence that’s modern, attractive, and helpful and create an email list service for questions or concerns that members are guaranteed an answer. This will hopefully lead to increased membership and a desire to be involved in MAA. Whether you can donate an hour or a hundred hours, every contribution is appreciated. For MAA to continue to flourish, we need you as assessors.
It is our members that are the backbone of MAA and why I attend conference every year (happy hour helps). The exceptional educational courses play a close second and The Michigan Assessor magazine a not so distant third. I pledge to enhance these services while also bringing more to the table. Our path as assessors is not always straight and easy but what we do matters to our residents, our community, and our great State of Michigan. Let MAA help you along your assessing journey.
Here’s to checking off that list and getting though March with a sense of pride and clarity.
