MAA President's Message

September/October Message

Summer is almost over, and fall is around the corner; autumn is my favorite time of year with the cooler temperatures and color changes. Speaking of changes, I just wanted to update you that the MAA magazine will now be printed once every two months for the remainder of 2020 and moving forward for 2021. This will result in a cost savings of approximately $17.000.00 a year.  Editor Raftary has done an excellent job searching different resources to bring to our magazine and this is evident with the many awards this publication has won over the years, (12) IAAO Zangerle Awards.

Due to the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic moving into the fall, we are taking the 2020 Annual Business Meeting virtual on October 21, 2020 at 10:00 am. Instructions on how to attend the virtual Annual Business Meeting is contained in the September/October issue of The Michigan Assessor.

I had the opportunity to attend the MAED Annual Business Meeting held in Cadillac, MI. last July.  It was a great meeting and there were about 30 members in attendance.

I have to admit that I am still hoping for college football this fall or early winter and the opportunity to cheer loudly for the MSU Spartans and somewhat less for our friendly Michigan Wolverine cousins, but as we continue through this very unique year, it will surprise any of us if anything gets back to normal any time soon. Please keep yourselves, family members and friends healthy and safe.

All my best,
John Dahlquist, President
