David Lee to Leave State Assessors Board

On Tuesday, June 16th, David C. Lee announced that he will step down as the Executive Secretary of the State Assessors Board effective July 1, 2009. In a memo from Lisa Hobart, Chairperson of the State Assessors Board, the Board thanked Mr. Lee for his past dedication and professionalism. Kelli Sobel, Executive Secretary of the State Tax Commission will assume the duties of the SAB Executive Secretary. Ms. Sobel can be reached at 517-335-3429.

MTT Proposes Amendments to Rules and Practices

The Michigan Tax Tribunal has drafted amendments to the Tribunal’s Rules of Practice to address recent statutory changes to the Tax Tribunal Act and facilitate processing of appeals. The Tribunal is also proposing a revised fee structure with the goal of achieving of becoming self-funding. The proposed revisions are being submitted to the State Office of Administrative Hearings and Rules (SOAHR) for review. Upon completion of SOAHR’s review, a public hearing will be scheduled to take comments on the proposed revisions.

STC Reconsiders Dates for Two Year Sale Studies

At the request of the Michigan Association of Equalization Directors, the State Tax Commission, at their meeting on May 26, 2009, reconsidered the dates for the two year and single year studies. The State Tax Commission adopted the following change in the dates:
Effective beginning with 2010 Equalization, the sales study dates are changed as follows:

Two Year Study: October 1, 2007 through September 30, 2009
Single Year Study: October 1, 2008 through September 30, 2009

Please note that these sales study dates apply to all classes of property.
