STC Adopts Limited Michigan Certified Assessing Officer Certificate

Due to the suspension of the Level 1 and 2 programs, and during the transition  from the old process to the new process, the State Tax Commission has approved a Limited Michigan Certified Assessing Officer certificate to be issued to individuals who are not currently certified.  Individuals will be required to successfully complete an examination to obtain the certificate. However they will be unable to certify an assessment roll until successfully completing the new entry level educational program.

State Tax Commision Approves New Certification Requirements

The State Tax Commission has announce the new structure for obtaining assessor certification and educational requirements.  Key points are the combination of Level 1 and Level 2 certification into one single certification level.  The new certification designations are Michigan Certified Assessing Officer (MCAO), Michigan Advanced Assessing Officer (MAAO) and Michigan Master Assessing Officer (MMAO).
The State Tax Commission also outlined new Personal Property Examiner and Equalization endorsements as well as new educational and re-certification requirements.

MAA Executive Board-District 2 Vacancy

All District 2 MAA Members are advised of a vacancy on the Board of Directors. This vacancy is for a District 2 Representative and is a result of the resignation of elected Treasurer, Sharon Frishman and the subsequent appointment of Denise Chalifoux as MAA Treasurer for 2010.

The District 2 Representative position is for a term of office that expires in 2012. District 2 MAA members interested in being considered for this position are asked to send a letter of application along with any supporting materials to:

STC Adopts 2010 Inflation Rate Multiplier Reducing Taxable Values

The State Tax Commission, in STC Bulletin 10 of 2009 has adopted an Inflation Rate Multiplier (IRM) for use in the 2010 capped value formula and the 2010 “Headlee” Millage Reduction Fraction (MRF) formula of 0.997.
